What must I do if I want to join the Reality gym benefit?
You can either start by contacting the gym of your choice first, or Reality. It is recommended that you start at Reality. You will be guided through the process at these points of entry. Call 0860 732 548/9.
Can I apply at any gym for membership?
No, only certain gyms are Reality partners. These gyms include Virgin Active, Planet Fitness and certain accredited gyms. Contact Reality on 0860 732 548/9 to confirm which accredited gyms form part of this benefit.
I want to apply for gym membership, what will be expected of me?
You will enter into a separate agreement with the gym of your choice, complete the agreement with the gym and supply banking details for payment of your gym fee. Once your gym application is completed you also need to join Reality by calling 0860 732 548/9. Reality will also need your banking details for payment of the Reality membership fee.
What will happen after my applications at the gym and Reality have been completed?
If you apply at Virgin Active, your gym fee will be discounted by 15% per month, as a Reality+ Gym member. Virgin Active will validate that you qualify for Reality membership by contacting us. If you apply at Planet Fitness, your gym fee will be discounted by 20% per month, as a Reality+ Gym member. Accredited gyms determine their own gym fees. If you make use of Planet Fitness or Accredited gyms, it is your responsibility to join at Reality. Only Virgin Active will inform Reality of your application for membership. Reality will validate if you qualify for gym membership either on receipt of the Virgin Active instruction, or when you call Reality to register. If you qualify for Reality gym membership, you will be registered as a Reality+ Gym member.
What happens if I do not qualify for Reality+ Gym membership?
Reality will inform Virgin Active that you do not qualify for the Reality+ Gym membership. Virgin Active will contact you and inform you accordingly. Your 15% gym fee discount will be removed. In case of Planet Fitness and accredited gyms, you will be informed by Reality that you do not qualify. Your 20% fee discount will be removed.
What happens to the gym discounts if I do not qualify for the Reality+ Gym membership?
The 15% Virgin Active- and 20% Planet Fitness discount will no longer apply and your contact with the gym will commence at the normal monthly fees.
After joining the Reality+ Gym benefit how long does it take for my gym membership to be activated?
Upon joining the gym you should have immediate access to train, but this depends on the gym you join. It may take up to 48 hours for Virgin Active members to get confirmation from Reality that you qualify for Reality+ Gym membership.
What fees are payable when using the Reality+ Gym benefit?
A monthly debit order will be deducted by the gym of your choice and at the contracted gym fee. A separate monthly debit order by Reality for the Reality+ Gym membership fee will be deducted. Where possible your Reality payment will be rolled up with your existing Sanlam Life product payment.
What once-off fees are payable upon joining the Reality+ Gym benefit?
No once-off activation fee is payable at this stage to Reality. Only joining fees are payable to the gyms where applicable. Contact your gym of choice for details on these fees.
How does Reality know how many times I have attended the gym for the month?
We receive an attendance record from both Virgin Active and Planet Fitness the month after you’ve gone to gym. This is a record keeping of all the times you have attended the gym for the previous months. If you visit the gym more than once per day it will only count as 1 attendance. For accredited gym members, a gym access count form is available that must be supplied to Reality on a monthly basis, before the 5th of each month, to qualify for rebates.
If I join one of the accredited gyms, what is expected from me on my monthly gym access count by Reality?
Reality needs your monthly gym access count to calculate any rebate payments that you may qualify for. Accredited gym members are responsible themselves to supply Reality with this information. A gym access count form is available here. You need to have this form completed by your gym, together with their official stamp or e-mail the form to Reality before the 5th of each month.
What will happen if my gym access form is not received by Reality by the 5th of each month?
Reality will not be able to calculate and pay rebates to you. Take note that NO rebate payments will be made in arrears to members who did not supply their access information in time to Reality.
Can my spouse and/or dependants gym with me on my gym membership?
Spouse and/or dependents qualify for Reality+ Gym benefits provided:
- You are a principal member of a CAMAF medical aid product and join the Reality Health Family option OR
- You are a principal member of a BESTmed medical aid product
What are the qualifying criteria for joining Reality+ Gym benefits?
Different criteria apply for different gym benefits with Reality:
- For the Reality+ Gym benefit: You need to have 2 or more qualifying products with the Sanlam group or
- For the Reality++ Gym benefit: You must be a principle BESTmed Medical Aid member.
- For the Reality Health gym benefits: You must be a principle CAMAF Medical Aid member.
What happens if the qualifying product(s) for gym membership is cancelled?
You will at all times need to have the qualifying products. Should you fail to adhere to this requirement, you will be advised by Reality to obtain the products needed. Should you fail to adhere to this requirement within a reasonable period, your Reality+ Gym membership will be cancelled and you will lose any gym fee discounts which apply.
How is my monthly rebate calculated?
Your rebate depends on the gym option you qualify for as different rebate rules apply for different options. All models however use the principle of the more you exercise, the more your monthly rebate. This is additional to the gym fee discount already applied in case of Virgin Active and Planet Fitness!
- For Reality+ and Reality++ Gym members the rebate is based on the amount of times you visit your gym per month as well as the rebate table that applies. The more you gym, the higher your rebate. Should you for example access your gym 12 times or more per month, you will qualify for a monthly maximum rebate of R300.
- For Reality Health options you need to visit the gym 6 times or more to qualify for a rebate. The rebate payable in this case is 35% of your gym fee to the maximum amount of R402,50.
Does the above rebate apply to my spouse and/or dependants?
CAMAF principle member’s spouses or dependants over the age of 18 years may qualify as spouse/dependants under the Reality Health Family option. Reality benefits, rules, terms and conditions as applicable to the Reality Health Family option will also apply to these spouse/dependants. Spouses or dependants are defined by the CAMAF medical scheme rules.
- Different rules apply for the different gym options: Reality+ Gym- and Reality++ Gym options: Spouse and/or dependents are handled as members in their own right and receive rebates in their own right
- Reality Health members on family option: Gym access counts are added and count together towards rebates.
How will rebates be paid to me?
Reality will calculate rebates on the 10th of each month and make payment directly into members’ bank accounts on qualification. Members should receive rebate payments within 2 working days after the 10th of each month.
Note that Reality will use the banking details as supplied by members to make payment.
What debit orders will be raised against my account?
Your gym will raise a debit order for your gym membership part and Reality will raise a debit order for your Reality membership fee. Members will at all times have visibility on the amounts being deducted from their accounts.
Does it count when I visit the gym more than once a day?
No, only one visit will be counted per day for rebates payable.
Can I change my banking details used for my gym fee?
As both the gym and Reality use your banking details to raise separate debit orders, you need to contact both parties should you wish to change your banking details. Reality can be on 0860 732 548/9 and updating your personal details and payment details.
Can I use any gym after joining the Reality gym option?
You may use Virgin Active, Planet Fitness and certain accredited gyms. Different rules apply at different gyms. Contact your gym to find out what gym options are on offer. You can also contact Reality to find out which accredited gyms are supported.
Can my spouse/ dependant join a different gym or must they join the same gym that I am at?
Yes, they are allowed to join a different gym. Gym fees differ between gyms. More information can be obtained from the gym of your choice on different gyms available.
Must I pay a cancellation fee if I wanted to end my gym contract?
Different rules apply for cancellation of gym membership at each gym. Ensure you are familiar with the cancellation rules that apply at your gym of choice. Enquiries on cancellation rules must be made at the gym of your choice.
Who must I talk to if I have a gym attendance dispute?
It is the member’s responsibility to ensure that their gym visits are recorded accurately each time they visit their gym. If members have any attendance disputes they must contact their gym directly to resolve the dispute. No rebates will be payable in arrears for disputes.
How is my gym fee discount calculated?
Reality has negotiated the following gym-specific monthly discounts on the gym fee for Reality+ Gym members:
• Virgin Active: 15% discount
• Planet Fitness: 20% discount
• Accredited gyms: Determined by the gym
Monthly gym fee discounts are applicable provided that both Reality and gym membership is active and fully paid up. Failure to meet these conditions may result in the defaulting member forfeiting the applicable discount and instead paying the normal prescribed fee as determined by the gyms.
Where did Reality get my contact details from? (uncertain if this is applicable as am not privy to the latest agreement about the data transfers and outbound sales calls)
Reality Health (previously known as Wellth) is the lifestyle programme exclusive to the CAMAF medical aid scheme members. The administration of the Reality Health programme is done in association with Sanlam Group’s lifestyle programme called Reality. Reality will administer all current and future benefits on behalf of Wellth to its members.
Reality only selects clients who have not opt-out of CAMAF Communications and marketing activities on their policy document that they would like to receive more product offers in future. Clients that indicated “no marketing” are excluded from selection. Clients who do not wish to receive any marketing material can however at any time phone Reality to put a no marketing flag on their record and will not get any more marketing related calls from Reality.
What happens if I travel abroad or cannot gym because of illness?
Arrangements and rules around travel and sickness differ between gyms. You need to check your gym contract terms and conditions.
