During 2008, DEKRA enhanced its competitive position internationally with its expansion into Southern Africa via DEKRA Automotive (Pty) Ltd, a joint venture between DEKRA Automotive International and FirstRand. Using the expertise of highly qualified employees and innovative services and products and a strategy of acquisition to gain critical mass, DEKRA Automotive (Pty) Ltd now has a national footprint of 50* vehicle inspection test centres and is aiming to increase this to 70 test centres. DEKRA Automotive South Africa (Pty) Ltd has a workforce of over 370 people and growing.
In addition to acquiring existing test centres, DEKRA Automotive (Pty) Ltd purchased the Franchise rights of AA Test and Drive from the Automobile Association of South Africa and to date has appointed six DEKRA franchisees with more pending. DEKRA Automotive (Pty) Ltd is now represented in six Provinces in South Africa.
